Welcome to Slack!
Our new messaging app.
This training will help guide you through the process of downloading it, understanding it’s messaging features, and more!
Mobile Training

Go to the App store (for Apple users) or the Microsoft store (for Android users) and search for “Slack.” Once found, hit download or “Get.”

Once downloaded, open the app and Enter awaken-church-hq.slack.com as your workplace ID
Navigating the App

Hit the “Home” button in the bottom left corner to view the groups you’re a part of and people you’ve recently directly messaged.
When on this page, hit the top left hand corner to view which workspace you’re logged into (you can be logged on to multiple work spaces but if you entered the Awaken Church workplace ID upon downloading the app,
you should be logged in to Awaken Church’s workplace). -
Hit the “+” to add a new workspace.

Tap the “You” icon in the bottom right corner to update your status (useful for letting people know you’re on vacation or away),
view and edit your profile, and change preferences or notification settings.

Tap your name or photo at the top of the screen to add/edit your profile photo, change your name, and add “what you do” or your work/ ministry title.

Tap the “DMs” icon in the bottom
left corner to view all of your direct messages. Tap the pencil icon to
start a new message.
Messaging Features

Tap and hold the message you’d like to add a “quick response” to.
You can also tap and hold to mark the message as unread, copy it,
share it with others, or add a reminder for yourself for the message to pop up again later.
Slack also has fun features to personalize your messages and take them from boring to extra-ordinary!
2. Click the lightning bolt to send GIFs or create an event with google calendar. (steps below)
Click the @ sign to mention others in your message, and click the arrow to send.
3. After hitting the lightning bolt and selecting “Giphy,” type a word or phrase in the giphy search bar to look for an image.
If you don’t like the image, you can hit the “shuffle” button to be provided with a new image.
Double check to make sure you’re sending it to the right person, then hit “share.”
Adding Google Calendar on the Mobile App
Adding google calendar to the app allows others to know when you’re busy or away. To add the app widget:

Click the home icon in the bottom left corner.

Click the square in the top right corner.

Click “Preferences.”

Click “Apps and Integrations.”

Scroll down to “Daily Tools” and select “Google Calendar.”

Download the calendar app and give authorization to share on slack.
install Slack on your Desktop
To Download Slack:
Go to Microsoft App store or Apple App Store > Search “Slack” > Click “Install” > Click “Launch” > Enter awaken-church-hq.slack.com as your workplace ID
To Add a Photo:
Click on your name on the left hand side (under “Awaken Church”) > Click “View Profile” > Click “Edit Profile” > Click “Upload Image” > Click “Save Changes”
To connect Google Calendar:

Scroll down the left hand side of the

screen to where it says “Apps”

Click “Google Calendar”

Connect account
-
“Allow” Access to Google Account
-
“Allow” Google Calendar to access the Awaken Church Slack Workspace

“Turn on” automatic status updates
Set calendar reminders
Scroll down the left hand side of the screen and select “Google Calendar” > Select “Home” > Select “Settings” > Select “Notification Preferences” > Select the time you’d like to be reminded of your event > Select “Update”
To change your status:
Click on your name under “Awaken Church” on the left hand side bar > Select “Change” to change your status to “Active” or “Away” > For a more detailed away message, select “Update Your Status” and select “out sick,” “on vacation,” or enter your own status. Note: To help your colleagues know when they can reach you, be sure to enter the date/ time you plan on returning to your office.
Message Features:
Send a GIF: Select the person you’d like to message
> Click on the lightning bolt
> Select “Find and share a gif” >
> Type some words describing the type of photo you’d like to send
> Hit “Search” (an image will pop up) > Select “Shuffle” if you’d like to pick a different image > Select “Share” if you’d like to share the gif that’s been pre-selected
Add reaction
You can “react” to messages you receive by hovering over the message and selecting “Taking a look,” “Nicely done,” or “Find another reaction” to search through the emojis
Search for emojis by selecting “Find another reaction” and typing in the reaction you’re looking for. Next, select the emoji you’d like to send.
Edit message
Hover your mouse over the message you’d like to edit > Select “More Actions” > Select “Edit
Message” > Type out your new message > Select “Save Changes”
Marking Unread/Reminder
You can also select the option to “Mark [your message] as Unread” if you’d like to come back to the message without letting the other party know that you’ve seen it.
Or, you can tell the other party to remind you about their message later by selecting the “Remind me about this” option. Then select the time/ date in which you’d like to be reminded.
