Updating a Windows Computer

Updating a computer to its latest update is crucial to ensure the hardware/software is running smoothly. A lot of times, problems regarding slow speeds, display, or even printing can be resolved just by updating your computer. Before submitting an IT Ticket, please ensure that your system is fully up to date.

HOW TO UPDATE A WINDOWS COMPUTER

  1. Click on the “Windows Key” located either on the bottom left (Windows 10) or bottom middle (Windows 11) of your screen.

  1. On the search bar, type and click on “Check for updates.” This will take you to a window called “Windows Update”

  1. Allow the computer to identify any updates that need to be installed. (Keep in mind, the time this takes can vary from computer to computer depending on how outdated it is.)

  1. Once “Windows Update” states “Updates available to install,” click on “Install All”

  1. Allow your computer to fully install the necessary updates. (This process may restart your computer multiple times.)

  1. Check to see if your system is up to date by going back to “Windows Update” (follow steps 1-2). If more updates need to be installed, be sure to do so. If your system is up to date, “Windows Update” will display a green checkmark saying “You’re up to date”
